BABAYAGA gehört seit einigen Jahren zu den aktivsten Live-Acts in der Liga der jungen deutschen Ska-Bands; durch permanente Bühnenpräsenz haben sich die sieben Musiker aus Jena, Berlin und Kiew eine schwer tanzerprobte Fangemeinde erspielt. Nach über 300 Konzerten im In- und Ausland begab man sich 2010 wieder ins Studio und veröffentlicht nun bei Skanky ́Lil Records (Antwerpen), dem Label der britischen Ska-Legende Mark Foggo, den lange angekündigten dritten Longplayer „Funky Drop“. Die Musik von BABAYAGA basiert auf einer außergewöhnlich kreativen Entwicklung im Spannungsfeld zwischen jamaikanischer Tradition und deren moderner Interpretation. Auf dem musikalischen Fundament von Reggae und Ska lässt man gekonnt Elemente aus Latin, Funk, Pop und Jazz zur Geltung kommen. Die Band beweist einmal mehr das sie die energiegeladene Atmosphäre ihrer Konzerte auch ins Studio übertragen kann, das Ergebnis ist ein exzellent produziertes mitreißendes Album.
